"Grace Gardens"
Community partnerships and food for all!
Little Kitchen Food Shelf has partners with Gardening Matters, the MN Project, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Hennepin County Dept. of Health and others to create connections between community gardeners, private gardeners and local food shelves. Last summer (2011) we were one of two pilot sites for "The Garden Gleaning Project," and we happily accepted donation of several hundred pounds of freshly-harvested locally-grown produce throughout the growing season! For more information please call Jennifer at 612-788-2444.
Grace Center for Community Life also established Grace Gardens in 2011, a "kitchen garden" project benefiting the Little Kitchen Food Shelf and residents of Northeast neighborhoods. Through education and hands-on opportunities, Northeast residents experiencing chronic food insecurity will have opportunities to plant, grow, harvest and cook their own fresh, organic produce on-site. Grace Gardens was established with the support of the following partners:
with support from a ScottsMiracle-Gro GRO1000 Grassroots Grant; and additional assistance from Joni Giese of SRF Consulting Group Inc., with support from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization.
Grace Center for Community Life is a creative partnership between Northeast Community Lutheran Church and the Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
